We are currently in the midst of a global pandemic.
During these challenging times, I’ve had many people write to me saying that having more time on their hands in combination with reductions in noise pollution and other related consequences of COVID-19 has given them a renewed sense of awareness of the wildlife that surrounds them in their everyday lives.
People are starting to pay attention to the flora and fauna that have always been around but have somehow evaded them until now. A few days ago a friend sent me a picture of a Eurasian Jay and thought it was some exotic bird from a distant land that had either migrated here or escaped from a zoo.
For this reason, I have put together a chart displaying some of the most common birds that can be quite easily spotted in the Czech Republic and indeed most of Europe. There are a few common species that I’ve left off (such as song thrush, mistle thrush, collared dove, willow tit) in addition to waterfowl and migrant species but you can learn a little more about these in my post, Birds of Prague.
See how many of these species you can spot, most of which can be observed in city parks or even from your own garden!
